the film portrays hiccup the son of the viking chief stoick the vast , who rules the island nation of berk.
it is here that once hiccup hits upon a frag-on and renders it flightless, his apparent victory he must share with his classmates, who do not believe in him when he comes up with he message of his victory.
hiccup realizes later however that he has done harm to the dragon , so does not go near it to have it killed.
he then flies of from a cannon.
hiccup's dad later trains him along with several other youth on training dragons.
while hiccup receives his training he also happens to visit the dragon he injured in a combat which he names toothless.
this is where hiccup decides to redo the wings of toothless, with an artificial tail.
when toothless flies, he begins to appreciate his endeavors with dragons.
the rest of the plot is on hiccup's journey and his progress in training dragons,
how the rest of the youth react to his successful venture in dragon combat .
the eventual change of heart that hiccup has come across is portrayed in a picturesque manner in this animated action film. hiccup eventually becoming the protagonist among his fellow men.
