mani ratnams best , this film depicts the life of a village girl played by madhu , who's elder sister is promised a hand in marriage to arvind swami.
the strange arvind however ends up falling for madhu , who decides to elope with him.
in due course arvind who is a crypt decoder is assigned a mission in kashmir with the intelligence service raw of india. that's when he is taken captive by the
terrorists while in his office in srinagar. there he finds out the truth about how the kahmiri youth have no other option but to conceal their real issues like poverty by being led astray into terrorism.
he is shocked more on the life of the people than by the fact that his wife is abandoned . the rest of the story follows the pursuits of roja (madhu) to find out her missing husband. only realising the pathetic condition he was thriving in. roja thus is a new genre of romance in mani ratnam style.
