aamir khan plays the antagonist for the first time ever in his history in Bollywood.
the film again depicts the kashmir issue , pakistani role in moulding a militant to blend with the indians , carry on his activities in discretion.
kajol plays a blind kashmiri girl who is in delhi
with her friends on a vacation. she loses her mother soon after and has to return to kashmir.
while in delhi she falls in love with aamir khan , who is a playboy . they have a passionate encounter which leaves her pregnant .
aamir helps her regain her eyesight by getting her operated in delhi , with some cash arranged. she is ever grateful to him .
her father reaches delhi when a powerful blast rocks the parliament .
that's when zooni (kajol) realises that her lover aamir died in the bomb blast . the remains of his jacket are found. she is devastated. she returns to kashmir where she conceives his child.
rehan(aamir) is coincidentally in the same place as zooni , while on a mission to acquire a nuclear remote. while realsing what he had done to zooni, he lands up as a paying guest at her place.
soon she realises his true identity. the plot follows on the emotional turmoil of a wife and an indian , who is in a tough indecisive state on her husband.
